Sassuolo is an Italian football team that plays in Serie A. Its history begins in 1920, when it was founded with the name of Sassuolo Football Club. The neroverde team played for many years in local amateur tournaments, until it was re-founded in 1974 with the name of Unione Sportiva Sassuolo. Led by Massimiliano Allegri, in the 2006-2007 season Sassuolo achieved promotion to Serie B for the first time in its history. After initially struggling to avoid relegation, the neroverde club began to grind out victories and in the 2011-2012 season narrowly missed promotion to the top flight. The following season, Eusebio Di Francesco arrived on the Emilian bench and the objective became clear: to reach Serie A. The team imposed itself from the start as the first force in the championship, which it led for most of the season. The hero of that season was Simone Missiroli: it was his goal, in the 6th minute of injury time, that gave the victory 1-0 against Livorno and first place in the standings. Sassuolo also has a strong rivalry with the teams of Carpi, Modena and Empoli. The symbol players of Sassuolo are Francesco Mignanelli and Domenico Berardi. The Squinzi family, owners of the club, and the CEO Giovanni Carnevali are key figures in the history of Sassuolo. The neroverde club has won a Serie B championship and a Serie C Super Cup. Sassuolo's stadium is the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia, which has a capacity of 23717 seats.
